Unprecedented Hacker Attack Disrupts Russian Media VGTRK's Online Broadcasts on Putin's 72nd Birthday
Oct 7, 2024, 07:46 AM
On Monday, October 7, hackers targeted Russian state media giant VGTRK, disrupting its online broadcasting, according to state-run news outlets. The attack occurred on the day of President Vladimir Putin's 72nd birthday. The online broadcasting of Rossiya-1 and other TV channels under VGTRK was halted due to what company sources described as an "unprecedented hacker attack." A source within the company stated, "This will last for a long time." Despite the disruption, Russian State Media Holding reported that TV channels and radio stations were operating normally in spite of the attack. VGTRK Bureau Chief characterized the incident as "information warfare against the Russian press."
