Four-Time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert Signs Three-Year, $110 Million Extension with Timberwolves
Oct 23, 2024, 01:59 AM
Rudy Gobert and the Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to a three-year, $110 million contract extension, securing the league-record four-time Defensive Player of the Year with the team through the 2027-28 season. The new deal, negotiated by Gobert's agent Bouna Ndiaye, includes a player option in the final season and a trade kicker, providing Minnesota with significant flexibility next season. Gobert is declining his $46.6 million player option for 2025-26 in favor of the new multiyear contract, which brings his total earnings to $153 million over four years (2024-28). The agreement was reached just before the Timberwolves opened their season against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday. Gobert expressed his commitment to the team's competitiveness, stating, "It’s an amazing blessing. At the same time, being able to not be too greedy and leave some on the table for our competitiveness as a team. I think it’s important."
