On January 1, 2025, Eduardo Paes was sworn in for his fourth term as mayor of Rio de Janeiro, marking him as the longest-serving mayor in the city's history. During his inauguration ceremony at the Palácio Pedro Ernesto, Paes announced the launch of a Program to Combat Obesity, which includes plans to distribute a generic version of the drug Ozempic once its patent expires in 2026. Additionally, he proposed the creation of a Municipal Security Force, aimed at complementing state police efforts, with a focus on community policing and prevention. This force would include former military personnel and operate in partnership with the federal government. Alongside Paes, 51 city councilors were also sworn in for the 2025-2028 term. The mayor also signed 46 decrees to guide his new administration.
