Reddit CEO Demands Microsoft, Others Pay for Scraping Data on July 31
Jul 31, 2024, 09:05 PM
Reddit CEO Steve Huffman has called on Microsoft and other companies to pay for scraping data from Reddit. Huffman emphasized that it has been a significant challenge to block Microsoft’s Bing, Perplexity, and Anthropic from accessing Reddit data. He mentioned that Microsoft has been using Reddit data in Bing and reselling it through an API to other search engines. This move comes after Reddit has already struck deals with Google and OpenAI. Huffman stands by the decision to block most non-Google search engines, highlighting the necessity for these companies to compensate Reddit for its content. Huffman described the situation as 'a real pain in the ass' on July 31.
