Three Killed in Manhattan Morning Stabbing Spree; Suspect Ramon Rivera Arrested
Nov 18, 2024, 09:29 PM
On Monday morning, a series of unprovoked stabbing attacks in Manhattan left three people dead. The suspect, 51-year-old Ramon Rivera, a homeless man and resident of the Bellevue Men's Shelter, was taken into custody after the incident. The attacks occurred across multiple locations spanning over 20 blocks, including Chelsea, Kipps Bay, and Midtown near the United Nations headquarters. A 30-year-old man was fatally stabbed in Chelsea, a 67-year-old man was killed in Kipps Bay, and a woman, critically injured in Midtown, later died of her injuries. Rivera, who was found with blood on his clothes and two kitchen knives, allegedly selected his victims at random. He has eight prior arrests in New York City, including seven felonies, and was recently released from jail. A cab driver assisted in his apprehension. Officials, including Mayor Eric Adams, cited systemic failures in the mental health and criminal justice systems that allowed Rivera to remain on the streets despite his extensive criminal history.
