Qatar Withdraws from Gaza Mediation, Expels Hamas Leaders Amid Stalled Talks
Nov 9, 2024, 02:44 PM
Qatar has withdrawn from its role as a key mediator in the Gaza conflict and expelled Hamas leaders from the country, according to diplomatic sources on Saturday. The decision comes after Qatar informed Israel, Hamas, and the United States that it is suspending mediation efforts on a Gaza ceasefire and hostage deal due to both sides' unwillingness to negotiate seriously. Qatar has also warned Hamas that its Doha office "no longer serves its purpose." The Gulf nation had provided offices for Hamas since 2012 at the request of the Obama administration. The withdrawal marks a significant shift in efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
