Nicky Jam Withdraws Trump Endorsement After Comedian Calls Puerto Rico 'Island of Garbage'
Oct 30, 2024, 08:06 PM
Reggaeton star Nicky Jam has withdrawn his endorsement of Donald Trump after derogatory remarks were made about Puerto Rico at a recent Trump rally. In a video posted to his 43.5 million Instagram followers, the Puerto Rican-Dominican artist stated, "I retract any support to Donald Trump... Puerto Rico deserves respect." Nicky Jam had previously endorsed Trump during a Las Vegas rally in September, where he appeared on stage wearing a MAGA hat and the former president introduced him by mistakenly saying "She's hot!" The artist explained that he initially supported Trump because he believed he was better for the economy in the United States, where many Latinos live. However, following comedian Tony Hinchcliffe's comments at Trump's Madison Square Garden rally referring to Puerto Rico as a "floating island of garbage," Nicky Jam has renounced his support, emphasizing, "I never thought a month later a comedian would speak bad about my country."
