Russian Journalist Sergei Mikhailov Sentenced to Eight Years for Spreading False Information About Army
Sep 3, 2024, 09:11 AM
Sergei Mikhailov, the publisher of the independent newspaper Listok in Russia's Altai Republic, was sentenced to eight years in a penal colony on August 30. The Gorno-Altaysk court found him guilty of spreading false information about the Russian army, according to Setevye Svobody. Mikhailov was arrested in 2022 after publishing reports about civilian deaths in Bucha and Mariupol during the Ukraine war. His charges are related to false information about a massacre. A human rights group confirmed the sentencing, which is part of a broader crackdown on dissent in Russia.
