Nationals Option All-Star CJ Abrams to Triple-A Amid .203 Average as Season Ends
Sep 21, 2024, 04:05 PM
The Washington Nationals have decided to option All-Star shortstop CJ Abrams to the minor leagues. Abrams, who has struggled in the second half of the season with a batting average of .203 and a .586 OPS, will be sent to Triple-A. This move comes just before the end of the Triple-A season, meaning Abrams will not be playing in any more games this year and will be in West Palm. The Nationals have recalled Trey Lipscomb in his place. While some speculate that the decision is performance-based, others suggest it may be related to disciplinary issues, as Abrams was reportedly out late the night before a game. Nationals GM Mike Rizzo indicated that such behavior is not tolerated, regardless of a player's All-Star status.
