Nationals Demote All-Star CJ Abrams to Minors After Casino Incident, Says Davey Martinez
Sep 21, 2024, 04:23 PM
The Washington Nationals have demoted All-Star shortstop CJ Abrams to the minor leagues, citing an internal issue. This decision comes after Abrams was reportedly seen at a Chicago casino until 8 AM on the day of a game against the Cubs. The demotion is not performance-based, although Abrams has struggled in the second half of the season, hitting just .203 with a .586 OPS. The timing of the demotion is notable as the Triple-A season ends tomorrow, meaning Abrams will be in West Palm Beach without playing any more games. Manager Davey Martinez confirmed the demotion and stated that Abrams will work out with a few other Triple-A players. Additionally, the Nationals have recalled Trey Lipscomb.
