Masai Russell Wins 100m Hurdles Gold in Photo Finish at Paris 2024
Aug 10, 2024, 06:13 PM
Masai Russell, a Maryland native and Kentucky graduate, won the gold medal in the women's 100-meter hurdles at the Paris 2024 Olympics. In her Olympic debut, Russell secured the victory with a time of 12.33 seconds, narrowly edging out French athlete Cyrena Samba-Mayela, who finished in 12.34 seconds. This win marks Russell's first Olympic podium finish and adds to her achievements as an NCAA 100m hurdles record-holder. The race was decided in a photo finish, with Puerto Rico's Jasmine Camacho-Quinn taking bronze with a time of 12.36 seconds. The top five competitors were separated by just a tenth of a second. Russell, who was signed by Nike just four months ago, also beat the defending Olympic champion.
