Luigi Mangione Indicted on 11 Charges Including Terrorism for Murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO
Dec 17, 2024, 08:57 PM
Luigi Mangione, 26, has been indicted by a Manhattan grand jury on a total of 11 charges related to the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The charges include one count of first-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism, two counts of second-degree murder, one of which is also charged as an act of terrorism, and multiple counts of criminal possession of a weapon and a forged instrument. The incident occurred on December 4 outside a Midtown Manhattan hotel where Thompson was heading to an investors conference. Mangione, who used a 3D-printed ghost gun and a fake New Jersey ID, is currently in custody in Pennsylvania on related charges and is expected to waive extradition to New York during his extradition hearing on Thursday. The Manhattan District Attorney, Alvin Bragg, described the killing as a 'frightening, well-planned, targeted murder' intended to cause shock and intimidation. If convicted, Mangione faces a maximum penalty of life without parole.
