Michael Jordan's 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports Sue NASCAR Alleging Monopolistic Practices
Oct 2, 2024, 01:16 PM
23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports have filed a federal antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR and its CEO Jim France, alleging monopolistic practices. The lawsuit accuses NASCAR and the France family of unlawful monopolization of premier stock car racing and implementing anti-competitive practices that prevent fair competition in the sport. Michael Jordan, co-owner of 23XI Racing, stated, 'The way NASCAR is run today is unfair to teams, drivers, sponsors, and fans.' The lawsuit describes NASCAR and the France family as 'monopolistic bullies.' Bob Jenkins, owner of Front Row Motorsports, is also a plaintiff in the case. The teams are seeking a preliminary injunction to allow them to compete as chartered teams in 2025 while the litigation proceeds and are pursuing treble damages for anti-competitive terms. Attorney Jeffrey Kessler represents the teams. Denny Hamlin stated, 'They made a very serious threat to us, so we had to react seriously.'
