Sinner and Berrettini Lead Italy to Third Davis Cup Title with 2-0 Win Over Netherlands
Nov 24, 2024, 06:37 PM
Italy clinched its second consecutive Davis Cup title with a 2-0 victory over the Netherlands in Málaga, Spain. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner secured the decisive win by defeating Tallon Griekspoor 7-6(2), 6-2, following Matteo Berrettini's 6-4, 6-2 victory over Botic van de Zandschulp. This marks Italy's third Davis Cup triumph overall, with previous titles in 1976 and 2023. Sinner capped an exceptional season, winning nine titles—including the Australian Open, the US Open, the ATP Finals, and Masters events in Miami, Cincinnati, and Shanghai—and amassing a record of 73 wins and six losses. He achieved more victories and titles than any other player this season and made history as the first to win two Grand Slams, the ATP Finals, and the Davis Cup in a single year. Italy is the first nation to win back-to-back Davis Cup titles since the Czech Republic in 2012-2013.
