Jamie Foxx Reveals Brain Bleed and Stroke in Netflix Special, Credits Daughter for Recovery

On December 10, 2024, Jamie Foxx released his new Netflix stand-up comedy special titled 'What Had Happened Was...'. In the special, the 56-year-old actor and comedian revealed for the first time that his mysterious health scare in 2023 was a brain bleed that led to a stroke on April 11 while filming a movie in Atlanta. He recounted that he initially experienced a severe headache and was misdiagnosed by a doctor who thought it was just a headache. The stroke left him hospitalized, unconscious, and in a coma for 20 days. Foxx shared that he 'saw the tunnel' during his ordeal and didn't remember those 20 days of his life. He credited his 16-year-old daughter, Anelise, for helping save his life by playing guitar at his hospital bedside. After emerging from the coma, he underwent rehabilitation at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago. The special marks Foxx's return to the stage, where he candidly discusses his rehab and recovery process after his life-threatening stroke with humor, music, and honesty.
