Dec 24, 2024, 10:20 PM
Armed gangs in Haiti attacked journalists and police officers during a ceremony to reopen the Hôpital Universitaire d'État d'Haïti (HUEH), the country's main public hospital in Port-au-Prince, killing at least two journalists and a police officer and wounding several others, including seven journalists. The attack occurred on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, when gangs opened fire inside the old military hospital space near the General Hospital as a delegation from the Ministry of Public Health was expected to arrive. The deceased journalists were identified as Jimmy Jean of Mounafebon TV and Mackendy Natou, who worked in marketing for VOA Kreyol. The police officer killed was Daniel Renaud from the Intervention Brigade. The gang responsible for the attack is led by a man known as 'Barbecue'.
