Gang Leader Monel Felix Orders Massacre of Elderly, 184 Dead in Haiti's Cite Soleil
Dec 9, 2024, 07:59 AM
Over the weekend, at least 110 people were killed in Haiti's capital Port-au-Prince, specifically in the Cite Soleil slum, in a massacre orchestrated by the Viv Ansanm gang led by Monel "Mikano" Felix. Acting on advice from a voodoo priest, Felix ordered the killings of elderly residents whom he suspected of causing his child's illness through witchcraft. The victims, many over 60 years old, were targeted and killed with knives and machetes. The National Human Rights Defense Network reported the massacre, highlighting the ongoing gang violence in Haiti. The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, stated that 184 people were killed in the capital over the weekend, contributing to a staggering total of over 5,000 deaths in Haiti in 2024 due to gang violence.
