Cuba Becomes 12th Country to Join South Africa's ICJ Case Against Israel for Alleged Genocide in Gaza
Jan 13, 2025, 05:27 PM
Cuba has filed a declaration of intervention in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) case initiated by South Africa against Israel, accusing Israel of committing genocide in Gaza operations. This action was taken under Article 63 of the ICJ Statute. The move signifies Cuba's unwavering support for Palestine, as stated by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who condemned policies that undermine Palestine's right to freedom and independence. Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez emphasized Cuba's strong rejection of the alleged genocide against Palestine, calling for the ICJ to address Israel's impunity. Cuba is now the 12th country to join this case. South Africa and Israel have been invited to submit written observations on Cuba's intervention, as per the ICJ's regulations.
