Category 5 Hurricane Beryl Devastates Caribbean, Killing Seven, Heads Toward Jamaica
Jul 3, 2024, 05:54 AM
Hurricane Beryl, the earliest Category 5 Atlantic hurricane on record, has caused widespread devastation across the Caribbean. The storm intensified rapidly due to exceptionally warm ocean waters, reaching Category 5 status with winds up to 165 mph. Beryl made landfall in several Caribbean countries, including Carriacou and Union Island, causing significant damage, downing power lines, and flooding streets. Winds of up to 150 mph have been recorded, with sustained winds at 145 mph. At least seven people have been reported dead, and many homes and businesses have been destroyed. Jamaica and the Cayman Islands are bracing for impact as the storm continues its westward path. The World Meteorological Organization has warned that Beryl sets a precedent for a very dangerous hurricane season.
