Helium's Carrier Offload Beta Launches with Major US Carriers, Potential for 200 Million Phones
Aug 9, 2024, 05:27 PM
Helium, supported by the Helium Foundation, has launched its Carrier Offload Beta, allowing two major US cellular carriers to test offloading their traffic onto the Helium MOBILE Network. This initiative, backed by a Helium Improvement Proposal (HIP 129), enables all MOBILE Wi-Fi Hotspots to automatically opt-in to service Beta Carrier subscribers, with an option for operators to opt-out. The decentralized network, which includes Solana-based DePin, aims to expand wireless telecom infrastructure by allowing multiple carriers to connect and transfer data through Helium Mobile Hotspots. The potential impact is significant, with over 200 million phones potentially connecting to the Helium Network.
