U.S. Second Circuit Upholds British Socialite Ghislaine Maxwell's 20-Year Sex Trafficking Conviction
Sep 17, 2024, 03:10 PM
A U.S. appeals court has upheld the 2021 conviction of British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell for sex trafficking. Maxwell was found guilty of helping the disgraced late financier Jeffrey Epstein sexually abuse teenage girls. The Second Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan rejected Maxwell's arguments that her charges violated Epstein's 2007 non-prosecution agreement and found no errors in the judge's handling of the case. Maxwell's lawyer has expressed strong disagreement with the ruling and indicated plans to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence.
