Rheinmetall to Supply Ukraine With 180,000 Rounds of Gepard Ammunition, Funded by Germany for 2026 Delivery
Jan 6, 2025, 11:31 AM
Rheinmetall AG has been commissioned by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence to supply an additional 180,000 rounds of 35mm High Explosive Incendiary with Tracer (HEI-T) ammunition for the Gepard anti-aircraft gun. The order, valued in the high double-digit million euro range, was finalized in December 2024 and is being funded by the German government. The ammunition is set to be produced at Rheinmetall's facility in Unterlüß, Germany, with deliveries expected to begin in 2026. This follows a previous order in February 2023 for 300,000 rounds of Gepard ammunition, also supplied by Rheinmetall. The Gepard systems, which have been operational in Ukraine's air defense for over two years, have been effective in countering airborne threats such as drones. Germany has transferred a total of 55 Gepard anti-aircraft tanks to Ukraine, previously decommissioned by the Bundeswehr.
