No. 22 SMU Overcomes Six Turnovers, Defeats Duke 28-27 in OT to Remain Unbeaten in ACC
Oct 27, 2024, 03:42 AM
No. 22 SMU defeated Duke 28-27 in overtime in Durham, maintaining their undefeated record in the ACC. Despite committing six turnovers—three interceptions and three fumbles, including three in the last nine minutes—SMU managed to secure the win. Remarkably, Duke scored zero points off those turnovers. Duke missed two field goals in the last six minutes of the fourth quarter, including a blocked 30-yard attempt by SMU's Jahfari Harvey, which sent the game into overtime. In overtime, SMU scored a touchdown on a 24-yard run by Brashard Smith. Duke responded with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Maalik Murphy to Eli Pancol but failed on a two-point conversion attempt to win the game. SMU became the first team since 2011 to win a game despite a minus-6 turnover margin. SMU is now 7-1 overall, 16-2 in their last 18 games, and 4-0 in ACC play, with a significant matchup against undefeated Pitt next week in Dallas. Duke drops to 6-2 overall and 2-2 in the ACC.
