Trump Nominates 38-Year-Old North Carolina Native Daniel Driscoll as Secretary of the Army
Dec 4, 2024, 04:34 PM
President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Daniel P. Driscoll, 38, to serve as Secretary of the Army. Driscoll, a native of Western North Carolina, is a former soldier and Iraq War veteran who served with the 10th Mountain Division as a Cavalry Scout Platoon Leader after completing U.S. Army Ranger School. He is a graduate of Yale Law School, where he was a classmate and close friend of Vice President-elect J.D. Vance, and has recently been serving as a senior advisor to Vance. In 2020, Driscoll ran in the Republican primary for North Carolina's 11th congressional district. His nomination makes him an unusually young choice for Army Secretary and signals an expansion of Vance's influence at the Pentagon. Trump described Driscoll as a 'disruptor and change agent' with a powerful combination of experiences as a former soldier, investor, and political advisor. Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina praised Driscoll as 'a great choice!'
