Chinese health authorities have detected a new mutated strain of the mpox virus, identified as clade Ib, marking a cluster outbreak within the country. The outbreak, which has been effectively managed, originated from a foreign individual with a history of travel and residence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. A total of five cases have been reported, including four additional cases among close contacts, with symptoms described as mild, including rashes and blisters. The World Health Organization had previously declared a global public health emergency due to the spread of mpox, which has been reported in over 120 countries since 2022.
