Louisville Police Under Scrutiny After Arrest of Golfer Scottie Scheffler for Second-Degree Assault

Louisville police are under scrutiny following the arrest of world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler outside the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club. Scheffler was arrested after failing to stop his car when asked by Detective Bryan Gillis, who claimed he was dragged by the vehicle. However, newly released footage from a pole camera and dashcam does not corroborate Gillis's account. The footage shows Scheffler's car moving slowly and stopping immediately when approached by the officer, who then pulled Scheffler out of the car. The lack of body camera footage from Gillis, who failed to activate his body-worn camera during the incident, has led to disciplinary action against him. Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg and Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel acknowledged the policy violation and emphasized the importance of bodycam regulations. Despite the controversy, charges against Scheffler, including second-degree assault of a police officer, will not be dropped, and he is scheduled for arraignment on June 3. Scheffler's attorney insists that the golfer did nothing wrong and is prepared to go to trial if necessary.
