Tottenham's Rodrigo Bentancur Banned Seven Matches, Fined £100,000 for Racial Slur About Son Heung-min
Nov 18, 2024, 11:35 AM
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been banned for seven matches and fined £100,000 by the Football Association (FA) for using a racial slur directed at his teammate Son Heung-min. The FA announced that Bentancur breached FA Rule E3 in relation to a media interview where he made an offensive comment about South Koreans concerning Son. The Uruguay international has been instructed to attend a mandatory face-to-face education programme following the decision by the FA's independent regulatory commission, which rejected his defense. Son confirmed that he spoke with Bentancur regarding the incident. Bentancur will miss upcoming Premier League matches, including fixtures against Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool. Despite the ban, he remains eligible to play in the Europa League for Tottenham.
