The Beijing Central Axis has been officially designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its significant cultural and historical importance. Established in the 13th century and fully formed by the 16th century, this urban axis spans 7.8 kilometers, stretching from the Drum Tower and Bell Tower in the north to the Yongding Gate in the south. It comprises a unique combination of streets, squares, buildings, and urban spaces, reflecting the ideal order of the Chinese capital. This designation adds to China's growing list of World Heritage sites, bringing the total to 59, the second highest globally. The announcement was made during an exhibition in New Delhi, India, on July 27, 2024.
