Baltimore Hotel Workers Join Nationwide Strike on Labor Day
Sep 2, 2024, 01:46 PM
Hotel workers across the United States are engaging in strikes for better wages and working conditions. In Baltimore, workers at the city-owned Hilton Hotel have launched their first strike in 54 years, coinciding with a larger movement involving over 10,000 hotel workers in nine cities, including San Francisco, San Jose, San Diego, Seattle, Boston, Greenwich, Honolulu, and Kauai. The strikes target major hotel chains such as Hilton, Hyatt, and Marriott. The Baltimore strike, organized by members of the Unite Here Local 7, includes a diverse group of workers such as baristas, servers, hosts, cooks, housekeepers, market assistants, bellmen, dishwashers, and front desk agents. This one-day action on Labor Day is part of a nationwide call for respect and improved labor conditions.
