Hotel Housekeepers Fight to Restore Daily Cleaning Amid Overwhelming Workloads
Sep 1, 2024, 09:45 PM
Hotel housekeepers have been engaged in a prolonged struggle to reinstate automatic daily room cleaning services that were reduced during the pandemic. Workers, such as Fatima Amahmoud at the Moxy hotel in downtown Boston, report cleaning up to 17 rooms per shift, which they find overwhelming. Amahmoud, along with other unionized housekeepers, has expressed concerns about the unmanageable workloads and the decline in income due to fewer hours. Although workers at some hotels have authorized strikes, they have not yet commenced. The housekeepers' fight is part of a broader effort to address these issues across major hotel chains.
