Fish Kill in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor Leaves 24,000 Dead Due to Thermal Inversion
Sep 4, 2024, 09:56 PM
Maryland officials are investigating a significant fish kill in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, where approximately 24,000 dead fish were observed between the Rusty Scupper and the Maryland Science Center, as well as near Piers 5 and 6. The National Aquarium attributes the fish kill to a thermal inversion, which deprives the water of oxygen, exacerbated by cooler nighttime temperatures and a mahogany tide caused by brown algae. Crews from the Baltimore Department of Public Works are currently working to collect the dead fish.
