Russia Closes All Moscow and Kaluga Airports Amid Drone Threat; 'Carpet' Plan Activated
Dec 26, 2024, 01:24 PM
Russia's aviation authorities have temporarily closed all four Moscow airports—Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Zhukovsky—as well as Kaluga airport, located 160 kilometers southwest of Moscow, due to security concerns related to potential drone attacks. The Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) announced the temporary restrictions, stating that "aircraft crews, air traffic controllers, and airport personnel are taking measures to ensure safety." The 'Carpet' plan, a protocol activated in response to aerial threats, has been implemented. The closures come amid reports of a drone attack on a strategic Russian military airfield approximately 175 kilometers from Ukraine. Officials have not provided additional details regarding the closures.
