Anjem Choudary Sentenced to Life with Minimum 28 Years for Leading Terror Group
Jul 30, 2024, 01:32 PM
British radical Islamist preacher Anjem Choudary, 59, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 28 years for directing the banned terrorist organization Al-Muhajiroun and encouraging support for it through online meetings. The sentencing took place at Woolwich Crown Court. Choudary was found guilty of leading the proscribed group and promoting its activities online. His followers have been linked to numerous plots around the world. The judge emphasized that Choudary was a dangerous individual and played a central role in the organization. Choudary assumed a caretaker role after the group's founder, Omar Bakri Muhammed, was jailed in Lebanon in 2014. This sentencing follows a historic joint investigation by the Metropolitan Police, MI5, the New York Police Department, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
