Nokia Wins Munich Court Ruling Against Amazon Over Fire TV Stick Patent
Sep 20, 2024, 12:03 PM
Nokia has secured a Germany-wide injunction against Amazon's video streaming devices, including the Fire TV Stick, after a ruling by the Munich I Regional Court's 7th Civil Chamber, presided over by Dr. Oliver Schoen. The court issued a highly unusual bench ruling, finding that Amazon was using Nokia's patented video technologies without a license. As a result, Amazon will need to obtain a license for Prime Video. Parallel cases are pending in the U.S. and in Europe's Unified Patent Court. Nokia has been deemed to have acted fairly in its negotiations. Amazon has expressed disagreement with the court's decision, stating that the ruling will not affect existing customers and that a wide selection of Fire TV devices will continue to be available on Amazon.
