Nokia Wins German Patent Dispute Against Amazon Fire TV Stick
Sep 20, 2024, 12:03 PM
Nokia has won a significant patent dispute against Amazon in Germany. The Munich I Regional Court's 7th Civil Chamber, presided by Dr. Oliver Schoen, ruled that Amazon's Fire TV Stick and other streaming devices infringe on Nokia's patented video technologies. The bench ruling mandates that Amazon must cease selling these devices in Germany unless it obtains a license from Nokia, including for Prime Video. The court found that Nokia had acted fairly in its negotiations with Amazon. Parallel cases are pending in the U.S. and Europe's Unified Patent Court. Amazon has expressed disagreement with the ruling and stated that it will not affect existing customers, and a wide selection of Fire TV devices will continue to be available on Amazon.
