AI Helps Discover 303 New, Smaller Geoglyphs in Peru's Nazca Desert
Sep 24, 2024, 05:32 AM
Archaeologists have discovered 303 new geoglyphs in Peru's Nazca Pampas with the help of artificial intelligence. The AI-assisted image analysis of aerial photographs, conducted by researchers from Yamagata University and IBM Watson, nearly doubles the number of known geoglyphs at this UN-designated World Heritage Site. The newly uncovered geoglyphs, which are smaller versions of the famous Nazca lines, include figures such as llamas, killer whales holding knives, and decapitated human heads. This groundbreaking study sheds light on the purpose and cultural significance of these ancient drawings.
