The agency's head emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that more than 100 people have died from mpox in Africa in the last week alone, accounting for almost 15 percent of all fatalities reported this year. Additionally, the head of Africa CDC has called on wealthy countries not to abandon Africa as it grapples with the deadly outbreak of a mutated strain.
