Landslide in Nepal Sweeps Two Buses Into River, 65 Missing, 10 Killed
Jul 12, 2024, 04:56 AM
A landslide on the Madan-Ashrit Highway in central Nepal swept two buses carrying approximately 63 passengers into the Trishuli River early this morning. The incident, triggered by heavy monsoon rains, has left at least 65 people missing, including 7 Indians. Rescue and search operations are currently underway, but continuous rain and additional landslides are hampering efforts. The landslide occurred near the Narayanghat-Mugling road in the Simaltal area. Authorities, including the Road Division Office in Bharatpur and the Armed Police Force, are involved in the rescue operations. The Nepali Army has also been mobilized for the search efforts. Nepal's Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and has directed swift action from government officials. Three survivors have been found, and 10 people have been killed in the landslide.
