Mexico Sends Lawyers to Aid 4.5M Migrants in U.S., Linked to $60B Remittances

The Mexican government has announced plans to send hundreds of lawyers to the United States to provide legal assistance to Mexican nationals residing in the country, including those who are undocumented. The initiative, which involves 329 legal advisors and support from consultants and law firms, is part of a broader effort to protect the human rights of Mexican citizens in the U.S. The program is managed through Mexico's consular network and includes an app for migrants to report immigration enforcement actions. Mexican officials have stated that the effort aims to ensure that their citizens are not alone in facing legal challenges. According to reports, there are approximately 4.5 million undocumented Mexican nationals in the U.S., contributing significantly to remittances sent back to Mexico, which totaled over $60 billion. The lawyers sent may outnumber judges in U.S. immigration courts. The initiative was announced under the administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum.
