Switzerland Launches Instant Payments Scheme on August 20, 2024
Aug 21, 2024, 05:35 AM
Switzerland has launched an instant payments scheme on August 20, 2024, marking a significant step towards cashless transactions in the country. The initiative, introduced by the Swiss National Bank (SNB) and financial infrastructure operator SIX, allows for fund transfers in a matter of seconds. The market launch reflects the collective stakeholder commitment to the future of cashless payments in Switzerland. SNB and SIX anticipate that instant payments will become established in the medium term and form the basis for further innovation in payment transactions. By the end of 2026, all financial institutions active in retail payment transactions are expected to be reachable. In the coming months, further banks will announce similar services.
