Official announcement of primary results by New York City Board of Elections
Cuomo Leads NYC Mayoral Poll at 32%, Adams at 6% Amid Legal Challenges
Jan 13, 2025, 03:04 PM
A recent poll conducted by Hart Research for Progressives for Democracy in America from December 16-22, involving 800 likely voters, shows former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo leading the field in a potential Democratic primary for New York City mayor with 32% support. The poll highlights a stark contrast with incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, who garnered only 6% support, despite being the current mayor. Other candidates in the poll include former Comptroller Scott Stringer at 10%, Comptroller Brad Lander at 8%, state Senator Jessica Ramos and Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani both at 7%, and Assemblymember Michael Blake at 2%. The poll also indicates that under a ranked-choice voting system, Cuomo would secure 51% of the vote by the fifth round, significantly ahead of Stringer's 16%. Adams, who has been indicted on bribery charges, remains at 8% until his elimination in the fourth round. The survey suggests that name recognition plays a crucial role in the current standings, with Adams' low numbers being particularly notable given his incumbency. Cuomo resigned as governor in 2021 amid sexual harassment allegations, which he denies, while Adams faces legal challenges due to an alleged bribery scheme.
