Andrew Cuomo Leads NYC Mayoral Poll in Ranked-Choice Scenario, Adams at 6% Amid Legal Woes
Jan 13, 2025, 04:37 PM
A recent poll conducted by Hart Research Associates for the Progressive Democrats of America shows former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo leading a hypothetical Democratic primary for New York City mayor with 32% support, despite not having officially entered the race. The poll, conducted between December 16 and December 22, 2024, places incumbent Mayor Eric Adams at a distant 6%, tied with Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani. Other candidates trailing behind include former city Comptroller Scott Stringer at 10%, current city Comptroller Brad Lander at 8%, and state Senator Jessica Ramos at 7%. The poll also projects that in a ranked-choice election scenario, Cuomo would win on the fifth round with 51% of the vote. Adams, who is facing federal corruption charges, has dismissed the poll's significance, emphasizing that 'polls don’t make mayors, people do.' Cuomo resigned as governor in August 2021 under the threat of impeachment following sexual misconduct accusations, which he denies. The poll reflects a 71% negative view of Adams compared to 48% who view Cuomo favorably, while 44% have a negative view of him.
