INE Cuts 2025 Judicial Election Budget to 6,329 Million Pesos, Sheinbaum to Meet Taddei
Dec 26, 2024, 02:46 PM
The National Electoral Institute (INE) of Mexico has approved a significant budget cut for the 2025 judicial election, reducing the allocation from the initially requested 13,205 million pesos to 6,329 million pesos. This represents a reduction of 52.2%. The decision was made by the INE's temporary budget commission, which also adjusted the institute's base budget by 6.87%. The budget cut will impact the organization of the judicial election, set to take place on June 1, 2025, which involves the election of judges, magistrates, and Supreme Court justices. President Claudia Sheinbaum has announced a planned meeting with INE President Guadalupe Taddei in January to discuss the budget allocation. Sheinbaum emphasized the need for the INE to publicly disclose how the allocated funds will be used, especially if they seek additional resources beyond the 7,000 million pesos authorized in the 2025 Federal Expenditure Budget.
