Texas initially led 24-8 but Arizona State mounted a comeback, erasing a 16-point deficit in the fourth quarter. The Sun Devils took their first lead of the game in the first overtime with a 3-yard touchdown run by Cam Skattebo, who was named the game's offensive MVP after rushing for 143 yards, catching eight passes for 99 yards, and throwing a 42-yard touchdown pass. However, Texas responded with a crucial fourth-and-13 touchdown pass from Quinn Ewers, who threw for 322 yards, to Matthew Golden, who had seven receptions for 149 yards, to tie the game.
