High Court Overturns Anthony Mwaura's Appointment as KRA Chair Over KES 357m Graft Charges
Jul 15, 2024, 12:12 PM
The High Court has overturned Anthony Mwaura's appointment as the chairperson of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), declaring it irregular and unconstitutional. Justice Gikonyo cited the KES 357 million graft charges Mwaura faced in 2022 as a key reason for the ruling. Despite being appointed in November 2022, the court ruled that his pending corruption and economic crimes charges made his appointment illegal. The court further stated that his acquittal does not rectify the illegality of his appointment.
