Unit 8200 is the main signals intelligence unit of the IDF. Sariel's resignation follows the unit's failure to prevent the October 7 attack by Hamas. The resignation has been communicated to IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, and Sariel is expected to conclude his role in the near future. Israeli media reports suggest that Sariel's decision is a direct result of the intelligence shortcomings related to the October 7 incident.
