Qatar Suspends Israel-Hamas Mediation, Warns Hamas Office "No Longer Serves Purpose"
Nov 9, 2024, 06:09 PM
Qatar has suspended its mediation efforts between Israel and Hamas for a Gaza ceasefire and hostage deal, citing frustration with the lack of progress due to both parties' unwillingness to negotiate seriously. A diplomatic source indicated that Qatar informed Israel, Hamas, and the United States of its decision, which had been in effect for 10 days. The Qatari Foreign Ministry confirmed that mediation efforts are currently stalled and stated that it will resume its role when there is sincere willingness from both sides to return to the negotiating table. Qatar warned Hamas that its political office in Doha "no longer serves its purpose," although the Foreign Ministry denied reports that it has told Hamas to close its office, calling such reports inaccurate.
