Trump Raises Over $170 Million for Inauguration, Surpassing Previous Records with Tech Companies' Donations
Jan 9, 2025, 09:37 AM
President-elect Donald Trump has raised more than $170 million for his upcoming inauguration, setting a new record for inaugural fundraising. This amount surpasses the nearly $62 million raised for President Joe Biden's inauguration four years ago and the $107 million collected for Trump's 2016 inauguration. The funds have been contributed by tech executives and major donors eager to support the ceremony, with notable donations including $1 million each from tech companies Amazon and Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, as well as a planned $1 million personal donation from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The inaugural committee, expecting to raise over $200 million by January 20, plans to use any surplus funds for a future Trump presidential library. Due to high demand, VIP tickets for the events have sold out, leading to some seven-figure donors being placed on waitlists or informed that they may not receive VIP access.
