Sawyer and Ewers were former roommates at Ohio State in 2021 before Ewers transferred to Texas. The pivotal defensive play occurred with two minutes remaining when Texas was in the red zone, effectively sealing the game for Ohio State. After the game, Ewers remarked, "It's not like I tried to give him the game, but I saw Jack running with the ball down the sideline, and you know, it sucks man."
