Thailand Legalizes Same-Sex Marriage, Effective in 120 Days
Sep 24, 2024, 03:25 PM
Thailand has made history by becoming the first country in Southeast Asia and the largest in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage. The Marriage Equality Bill, passed by parliament in June, received royal endorsement from King Maha Vajiralongkorn and was published in the Royal Gazette on Tuesday. The law will officially come into effect in 120 days, allowing same-sex couples to legally wed. This development marks a monumental step for LGBTQ+ rights in the region.
